London and Leeds-based firm, World Wide Pictures, a WEConnect International certified women-owned business, has been the team behind his activities for broadcasters and social media – including the astronaut’s space walk and his space London Marathon.
Following his six-month mission aboard the ISS, the Chichester-born astronaut is due to return home today, Saturday 18th June 2016, and thousands are expected to follow the landing events on TV, web and social media.
Working with Russian search and recovery agency Rosaviatsa and with space station partners NASA and Roscosmos, World Wide will take live video from two camera crews and uplinks in the field and cameramen on the chase helicopters with microwave downlinks. The team will cover the landing, extraction of crew, first medical checks and transfer back to Karaganda where an official welcome ceremony will take place; plus, an initial interview with Tim Peake before he leaves. World Wide will also have a camera team to document his arrival back at the European Astronaut Centre at Cologne.
Highlights will be posted for broadcasters to download and edited packages will be available on social media channels within minutes of downlinking them in Europe.
The firm, formed in 1935, has a long track record of international projects on its books but the team agree this project has been “out of this world”.
Karen Hayes, Managing Director of World Wide Pictures says:
“We have delivered hundreds of live projects but to be involved in the first UK manned space mission since Helen Sharman flew to MIR is a real privilege for WWP. I think the nation has taken our home-grown astronaut completely into its heart and it has been a pleasure to have been at the forefront of communicating his mission achievements.”
