High Speed Two (HS2)
, is the largest and most ambitious infrastructure project Britain has ever seen, and the first new railway to be built north of London in over 120 years. They aim to build an accessible and inclusive railway system.
Phase One of the programme will create nearly 25,000 construction jobs, including 2,000 apprenticeships.
The project will need a full range of works, goods and services, covering many sectors, over the total programme’s 20-year lifespan. Through contributing their innovation, experience and capabilities, businesses from across the UK of all types and sizes will help make HS2 an exemplary project.
The scale and duration of the programme means that there is a significant an opportunity to create deep, long-lasting changes.
HS2 are committed to developing, maintaining and supporting equality, diversity and inclusion in the workforce, supply chain and throughout the planning, design, construction and operation of the HS2 programme. Working together with business networks such as WEConnect International and their supply chain partners, they will continue to look at ways to encourage women and other minority owned suppliers to access and prepare for the many thousands of supply chain opportunities at HS2.
Whilst HS2 Ltd will directly procure and manage a relatively small number of high-value major works contracts, this will lead to a high number of lower value sub-contracts through the supply chain, engaging a much larger and more diverse range of smaller suppliers. In addition, HS2 will have numerous, ongoing requirements to support the running of the business and many of these ‘corporate’ opportunities are likely to be suitable for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
