Tisser: Weaving a Network for Rural Artisans

Tisser is an exclusive boutique that offers rural Indian artisans and weavers access to a global marketplace. It also serves as a central location for retailers to purchase handmade products that are made using traditional techniques at wholesale rates. Its aim is to support the sustainable economic development of rural India.

Named after the French word for weave, Tisser provides product design, development and marketing support to more than 20,000 artisans on upwards of 300 products. Working on the entire supply chain, Tisser has also created mobile apps to connect artisans directly with clients.

When a five-member team from Afghanistan visited Tisser Unit @Mumbai, one visitor said, “Ms.Farida was quiet from the beginning of [the] tour. But after meeting you, she was so happy as it was Eureka for her. Hopefully she will [be] taking learning’s from you and incorporating it into development and scaling up her enterprise.”

“It was a pleasure to meet and know that three members of the visiting team were working in similar social enterprises who support local women in products and its marketing. Art without boundaries in [a] true sense.”
