When Carmen García Sanz started her career as a freelance graphic designer, she had no intention of building a company. But as projects kept coming in, she found herself collaborating with talented creatives—realizing that great design thrives in great teams. That realization led to the creation of Cocota, a Madrid-based brand and design studio that has since earned 40+ international awards and partnered with leading corporations and ambitious SMEs worldwide.
“Success, for us, is about more than just accolades—it’s about the impact we create through design,” Carmen says.
Cocota specializes in branding, digital design, campaigns, content, and positive impact design, using creativity to solve business and communication challenges. But while Carmen had built a company recognized for originality, strategy, and innovation, she faced one of the biggest challenges many creatives encounter—learning how to run and scale a business.
“As a fine arts graduate, I had no formal education in finance, business administration, sales, or talent management—let alone leadership,” she explains. “Learning these areas has been both the most challenging and the most rewarding part of my journey.”
That’s where WEConnect International made a difference.
After becoming certified in 2024, Carmen gained access to a global network of women-owned businesses and corporate buyers. Attending WEConnect International events not only helped her understand how procurement teams operate but also gave her a clearer perspective on her own business strategy. More importantly, the certification directly led to three new contracts with women-owned international businesses—showcasing the power of access and collaboration.
“The certification has been the single best way to generate new business over the past six months,” she says. “It has also connected me with exciting partnerships and friendships.”
As Cocota continues to grow, Carmen’s vision remains clear: to expand internationally while staying true to the company’s values and high creative standards. She is passionate about accessible design and DEIB-focused communication, helping businesses craft unique, compelling narratives that spark curiosity and emotion in an era of digital sameness.
She also has a message for fellow women business owners.
“Believe in yourself. Don’t be afraid to step in front of the camera or speak to a crowd—your unique perspective is worth sharing. And if you see me at the next WEConnect International event, say hi!”
Through WEConnect International, Carmen has not only grown her business—she has joined a community of women entrepreneurs who support, inspire, and uplift one another. With creativity at its core and connection as its foundation, Cocota is designing a future where business, beauty, and impact go hand in hand.
