This month we connected with Pina Romolo of Piccola Cucina.
How long have you been in business and why did you start?
We’ve been in business for 10 years and started Piccola Cucina when both my mom and I were laid off from our jobs. I was working in the corporate sector in Calgary at the time, in the Voice over Internet Protocol space. I knew I would always be in business, I just never really knew in what capacity; the business found me, so to speak.
What’s your go-to Elevator Pitch?
We are a 100% woman owned company, steeped in Italian, based in Canada. We are the premier manufacturers of almond-based creations, including our Italian-inspired macaroons, as well as almond pie shells – all made free from gluten, dairy, grains – plant based, healthy indulgence.
Which geographical areas do you service?
We service Canada as well as parts of the US.
How long has your organization been certified with WEConnect International?
We’ve been certified since 2018.
What are the benefits of this network and of certification?
This network is comprised of a group of people, mostly women and those that support women, that have a unique perspective of the world that aligns with my values – supporting and enabling women entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses, and giving an opportunity and a voice to those that need a helping hand. It is a place that has given me confidence because I have found others to validate my beliefs. Certification has given me a seat at the table, whereby I may not have had the opportunity before had it not been for the network, the connections and the education.
What 3 tips do you have for women entrepreneurs?
Any big plans or announcements you’d like to share?
We are in the process of expanding our plant in Winnipeg, with increased production capacity.
