MEET MARTY BRITTON FROM BMP

How long have you been in business and why did you start?
Britton Management Profiles (BMP) is celebrating 46 years in business this year. My father founded the company in 1974 as an investigative reference checking firm. My background is in Civil Engineering and I was on a maternity leave in 1994 when my father became ill. Without hesitation, I immediately stepped in to help. Looking back now at the decision I made 27 years ago, I would not have done it any other way.

What’s your go-to Elevator Pitch?
85% of job candidates misrepresent themselves. And according to Hire Rights 2017 Benchmark Survey, the cost to replace an employee is 213% of their annual salary. So just think of that cost for an employee earning $100,000 per year, it could cost you $213,000 to replace them. So it’s very important to know who you are hiring – and BMP can help.

Which geographical areas do you service?
We are a Canadian-based company with a global presence. Through our strategic partners, we are able provide our full suite of pre-employment screening services in any country.

How long has your organization been certified with WEConnect International?
BMP has been a certified member with WEConnect International for 10 years.

What are the benefits of this network and of certification?

I am an advocate of building relationships, while recognizing the power of collaboration. Having a strong supporting roster of fellow entrepreneurs who understand the challenges and sacrifices required to operate your own business is unmatchable. It takes time to develop the business opportunities – you must be patient and persistent. Don’t expect to obtain new business just because you are certified. You need to show up time and time again and establish those relationships. Doors will open if you put yourself out there. That is the first step.

What 3 tips do you have for women entrepreneurs?

  • Know your numbers and know your customers.
  • The customer rules – provide World Class customer experience.
  • Know when to ask for help. Don’t try to do everything at your own strength. Learn to work on the business and not in it.

Any big plans or announcements you’d like to share?
