WEConnect International and the Alliance to End Plastic Waste Signed MoU

 Washington, D.C. — May 3, 2023 — WEConnect International and the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) are pleased to announce that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 3, 2023, in Washington, D.C. The MoU aims to launch a global campaign to identify and register women-owned businesses that can contribute to ending plastic waste and promote a circular economy.

WEConnect International is a global non-profit that brings motivated, large corporate, multilateral, and government buyers together with qualified women-owned suppliers around the world.  They work with over 180 member buyers, with a combined annual purchasing power of over US$ 3 Trillion, that have committed to sourcing more products and services from women-owned businesses based in over 140 countries.

AEPW is a non-profit that operates globally to end plastic waste from entering the environment. They are seeking to better connect  women who operate businesses and social enterprises  with major suppliers in the plastic value chain and create end markets for recyclates, build and create more inclusive value chains and create strong social benefits through its projects.

The MoU was signed during WEConnect International’s Annual Gala dinner, which celebrated the best of the best in global women’s economic empowerment and Supplier Diversity & Inclusion. The winners of the 2023 Top Global Corporate Champions in Supplier Diversity & Inclusion were announced at this event.

On May 4, 2023, a Global Symposium will convene partners of WEConnect International Member Buyers and serve as a platform for them to share their ongoing work and learnings in gender-inclusive sourcing.

The Alliance to End Plastic Waste is a global initiative that is dedicated to reducing plastic waste in the environment. The organization is making progress towards its goal of investing $1.5 billion over five years to reduce plastic waste in the environment, and is working with partners to develop and implement innovative solutions to prevent and address plastic waste.
