WEConnect has hit the ground running with eight companies already certified as ‘Women Business Enterprises’. A WBE is an independent business that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more woman, once certified WEConnect can support businesses to access contracts with UK-based multinational organisations.
The first women to receive WBE certificates were applauded by over 300 delegates at a champagne reception supported by Pfizer this month. Certificates were presented by Pam Alexander, Co-Chair of the Governments Women’s Enterprise Task Force. Certificates were presented to Sophie Howe of COMTEC and Andrea Chance of Brainwave Media.
On collecting her certificate Andrea Chance, Director of independent video production company Brainwave said “Being a certified WBE is an excellent opportunity for my company to make new contacts, WEConnect will foster good relationships between buyers and suppliers, as well as helping to raise the profile of women-owned businesses within the corporate sector”.
Amanda Shaw, CEO of Wi-Fi Solutions who has also received WBE certification said “With a recognised Certification Program in place and the support levels offered through ongoing training and networking opportunities, this really is a fantastic chance to put my company on the map. I highly recommend other women to consider being a part of this important initiative”.
