Export Development Canada Joins as WEConnect International Market Member

TORONTO, October 20, 2020 — Building on an already successful partnership, WEConnect International has welcomed Export Development Canada (EDC) as a market member as part of its commitment to support women-owned businesses grow into new markets.

“We are excited to be working with WEConnect International to connect with and provide market opportunities to more women-owned businesses,” said EDC Women in Trade Lead, Jennifer Cooke. “We look forward to seeing the positive impacts that this partnership yields for Canadian women entrepreneurs.”

Globally, women’s business enterprises continue to earn less than 1 percent of the money spent on vendors by large global buyers. EDC, through the establishment of its own supplier diversity program, joins with other leading corporations which have recognized the value of increasing the participation of women-owned businesses in their supply chains.

“EDC has long been a supporter of women-owned businesses, and we’ve enjoyed a long-term partnership. Over the years, EDC has supported many WEConnect International events. We’ve been able to leverage their services and expertise to further support women business owners seeking to start exporting or to grow internationally,” said Stephanie Fontaine, Director for Canada.

“I’m thrilled that EDC is taking this very important step to bring our partnership to a new level, and I look forward to working with their procurement team,” she added.
