INTEL SOUTH AFRICA HOSTS WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS AT EDUWEEK, JOHANNESBURG

(1 July 2016 – Johannesburg) On 30th June 2016, Intel Corporation in Johannesburg hosted Women Business Owners registered with WEConnect International in South Africa during EduWeek 2016. The event took place at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, South Africa; where Intel returned for the third consecutive year as Headline Sponsor of the EduWeek conference.

The event was organised by WEConnect International in South Africa following an invitation from Intel. EduWeek took place during 29-30 June 2016 and convened global education suppliers, private sector, local and international expert speakers, government and non-profit organisations.

The WEConnect International and Intel Corporation Connect Session was comprised of an introduction to and update on membership, events, corporate opportunities and networking. Intel discussed current and future opportunities for women-owned businesses and provided Financial Management Basic Principles Training as well as advice on how Intel procurement works.

Intel Corporation is a member of WEConnect International in South Africa’s Advisory Council. The host and key speaker at the event Deaneesha Govender; a Commodity Manager in Regional Strategic Sourcing at Intel Corporation in Johannesburg, as well as Chair of the Advisory Council.

Govender told the audience that Intel is dedicated to their supplier diversity programme not only in providing support to women-owned businesses in the form of training, but also buying from them to grow their businesses. She explained that Intel believes that a diverse and inclusive supply chain benefits Intel by offering broader perspectives and greater innovation.

Executive Director of WEConnect International in South Africa Jean Chawapiwa told the audience that “Part of our role is to connect women business owners with corporates that wish to procure services and products from diverse suppliers. At this event, our focus has been to bring together women-owned businesses specialising in services and products for education, training and coaching to benefit from EduWeek”.

WEConnect International in South Africa identifies, educates, registers, and certifies Women Business Enterprises (WBEs) that are at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by one or more women. WEConnect International is the only non-profit organisation in South Africa that provides the seal of certification uniquely to WBEs, and which connects these WBEs with multinational corporate purchasing organizations across diverse industries.
