CANADIAN ANNUAL CONFERENCE EMPOWERS WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BDC

TORONTO, CANADA, Oct 252019  Members, multinational corporations, senior government officials and partner organizations celebrated women-owned businesses and the growth of women’s entrepreneurship at the WEConnect International in Canada’s annual Power the Economy conference.  It was a full day offering the stories and wisdom of women entrepreneurs who have excelled in their industries and insightful information from supplier diversity champions and procurement professionals.

This year’s event  kicked off on Friday, October 25th, at the popular St. Regis hotel in Toronto where presenters shared the trials and tribulations of women leading in STEM sectors as well as fascinating insight into the path to a global presence. In addition, corporations learned about best practices in supplier diversity programs.

The event also included intensive workshops to divulge key factors in raising capital, expanding business reach and making strategic decisions for women-owned businesses. And at a later roundtable, certified businesses met member buyers and networked for future opportunities.

Perhaps the most personal portion of the conference came when CEOs of major global corporations discussed their entrepreneurs’ journeys of overcoming rejection, making difficult decisions and partnering with a global brand.

Finally, this year, WEConnect International in Canada was pleased to honor the following  2019 award recipients.:

  • Canadian Corporate of the Year: EY
  • Canadian Partner of the Year: EDC
  • Canadian Supplier Diversity Champion of the Year: Richard Pinnock
  • Canadian WBE of the Year: Dionne Laslo-Baker – DeeBee’s Organics
