On February 21st, 2019, WEConnect International hosted a matchmaking event in the week leading up to the Annual Conference. As one of the largest benefits of certification, these events provide WEConnect International Certified Women’s Business Enterprises (WBEs) with the opportunity to meet on-one-one with local and global member buyers affiliated with the WEConnect International network.
Representatives from ABSA, Accenture, Citi Bank, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa, Cummins, EY, IBM, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Ingersoll Rand, Johnson & Johnson, MA Automotive Tool and Die (Pty) Ltd. and the Gauteng Department of Economic Development and North West Province were all in attendance at WEConnect International in South Africa’s first quarterly matchmaking session.
After being divided into randomly assigned groups, women business owners had the opportunity to meet with different buyer representatives for fifteen minutes to pitch their business before rotating to a different group in the next room. Corporations, in turn, were given “one-pagers” on the Certified Women’s Business Enterprises in attendance to refer to for post-event follow-up.
