In 2011, women only made up 32 percent of China’s company directors, down from 43 percent in 2005. The pay gap also widened, with Chinese women earning 67 percent of what their male colleagues did in 2010, compared to 78 percent, in 1990.

As the glass ceiling appears to be getting thicker for women in China, there are also individuals trying to break through it, by being her own boss.

To change this trend, some private companies and NGOs are now offering training and business opportunities to female entrepreneurs. On Thursday, the WEConnect International Marketplace for female entrepreneurs and job seekers was held in Beijing, where women businesses owners are given the opportunity to connect with each other."
