By 2022, female entrepreneurs have the potential to boost the South African economy by R175 billion. In support of this vision, the annual conference of WEConnect International in South Africa with the support of platinum sponsors ExxonMobil and EY is being held in Sandton, Johannesburg. The conference, an annual gathering of amazing and successful women business owners and WEConnect international corporate members, is focused on encouraging the sustainable growth of women-owned businesses.

The 2020 Conference theme, “Scaling Up in 2020 for Sustainable Growth”, is focused on women-owned businesses in South Africa and across the African continent, positioning themselves for success in this decade and beyond. The conference will explore how to foster connections between buyers and sellers, leverage technology to enable business growth, and discover new business opportunities across Africa and beyond.

The event will be opened by Ms. Elizabeth Vazquez, President, CEO and Co-Founder of WEConnect International. Ms. Vazquez notes, “This is an exciting time for WEConnect International’s work on the African continent. Over the next three years, WEConnect International will vastly expand our operations in Africa. We plan to double the number of women-owned businesses in our network and increase the number of corporate buyers sourcing products and services in Africa.”

The EY opening speaker is Ms. Jabulile Kubheka, Africa Talent Leader at EY, who affirms the close relationship between WEConnect International and EY: “Our partnership with WEConnect is of vital importance to us as EY Africa. We take seriously our commitment to empowering female leaders through education and entrepreneurship.”

Joining her on the programme are high-profile women business owners, Ms. Ipeleng Mkhari, CEO of Motseng Investment Holdings, and Ms. Patricia Norris, Founder and CEO, CTE Investment, who will both give a business motivation address. The High Commissioner of Kenya to the Republic of South Africa, as well as the MEC of Economic Development in Gauteng province are confirmed as speakers.
