WEConnect International in South Africa identifies, educates, registers, and certifies women's business enterprises that are at least 51% owned, managed, and controlled by one or more women. WEConnect International is the only non-profit organisation in South Africa that provides the seal of certification uniquely to Women Business Enterprises (WBEs), and also, that connects these WBEs with multi-national corporate purchasing organizations across diverse industries. Our signature seal of certification is a formal guarantee to corporations that they are purchasing goods and/or services from South African businesses that meet universal standards for WBEs. With South Africa’s Women’s Month coming to a close, WEConnect International in South Africa held its final two events on August 28 and 29. The one-day Enterprise Development Seminars held in Newtown and Soweto were sponsored by ABSA Business Banking and brought together 66 women business owners to learn about budget forecasting and digital marketing from corporate experts.
On 8 August 2017 a unique Intel event in Johannesburg drew an audience comprising Intel customers and suppliers, as well as certified women’s business enterprises of WEConnect International in South Africa. This special occasion was arranged by Deaneesha Govender, Intel Commodity Manager for Sales and Marketing. Diversity and inclusion are important to Intel and this session was a continuation of the commitment Intel has in reaching and growing women.
WEConnect International in South Africa held its third matchmaking event this year on August 15, 2017. Hosted by EY, the event brought together eight corporate representatives to meet, engage, and discuss areas of business collaboration with 43 WEConnect International certified women’s business enterprises (WBEs). During the event, the corporate representatives not only shared opportunities available for WBEs, but also met individually with women business owners in small breakout sessions and listened to their individualized business pitches.
