WEConnect International stood beside corporate members Accenture, Intel and Procter & Gamble (P&G) in South Africa on Sunday at the Mandela 100 Global Citizen Festival to announce new commitments in spend with women-owned businesses. Intel has committed to double its global commitment from $100 million to $200 million. Accenture has committed to spending $100 million with women-owned businesses in South Africa over the next three years. P&G announced it has completed its first $100 million commitment in only 1 year and has also committed to tripling its current spend with women-owned businesses in South Africa to $30 million over the next three years. These announcements complement and add to past WEConnect International corporate member commitments that represent over $1 billion in spend with women.
On 27 November 2018, WEConnect International and EY brought the Collaboration Workshop to Kwa-Zulu Natal’s capital city, Durban. Corporate representatives from EY and Ingersoll Rand were present to kick off the Roadshow, introduce themselves, and their companies. Women business owners took advantage of the corporates present by both seeking advice related to the corporate procurement procedures and expressing some challenges they had with regards to doing business with corporates.
WEConnect International partnered with the US Mission to ASEAN and IWAPI to host a business connections forum for women-owned businesses and large corporates in Jakarta on November 28. The successful event was made possible by the ongoing support of WEConnect International corporate member ExxonMobil. The event convened over 45 women-owned businesses. Sessions included discussions around the challenges being faced across urban and rural Indonesia in accessing sustainable market opportunities and how the WEConnect International network and platform can help.
