WEConnect International holds worldwide celebrations of IWD 2014
WEConnect International will observe International Women’s Day with a dynamic array of events to raise awareness and inspire change, from mentoring walks and educational workshops to keynote appearances.
CEO Elizabeth Vazquez will participate in an annual forum organized by the US Chamber Foundation Corporate Citizenship Center, Business Call to Action, and the United Nations Office for Partnership. The forum, titled “Turning Inspiration into Action: Next Steps for the Private Sector to Empower Women Globally,” will take place March 4 at the United Nations and will bring together leaders committed to the economic empowerment of women.
Vazquez will also deliver the keynote speech on March 7 at a luncheon organized by World Trade Center in Miami to honor distinguished Florida businesswomen. She will discuss the importance of women in international trade.
On that same date, WEConnect International in China will host a dinner for women business owners and corporate members. Additionally, the China team is working with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) on a Professional Women’s speaker event for the week of March 8 and will participate in a mentoring walk co-organized by AmCham, AustCham and 85 Broads.
In Mexico, WEConnect International is actively involved in the Vital Voices Mentoring Walk to be held March 8. Women business owners of the WEConnect International community have been invited to take part as mentors and mentees.
To the south in Latin America, the WEConnect International team in Peru plans to co-host with the US Embassy an event for women business owners on March 6 and 7. This networking gathering is supported by PromPeru, a government organization devoted to fostering exports and tourism.
WEConnect International in Brazil has been invited by Corporate Member IBM to speak at a breakfast of the company’s women suppliers, one of the many events IBM is planning to observe International Women’s Day.
In Jamaica, WEConnect International will host a networking event in for women entrepreneurs in partnership with Scotiabank Jamaica under the theme 'Going Global: Preparing for International Business'. This team will also partner with Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre Limited and several other women's groups for a “Women’s Expo” under the theme “Celebrating Women.”
To address the numerous current reports of violence against women in India, the WEConnect International team in that country will be collaborating with other organizations on a program titled “Safety for Women,” in order to raise awareness about the issue. Additionally, the team will partner with several We Connect International corporate members for a professional development workshop targeted at women business owners.
WEConnect International in Indonesia will be featured in the keynote speech spot on the topic of Women in Hospitality and Tourism in Asia at a conference to be held March 7 at the Hilton in Singapore.
In Africa, WEConnect International in Nigeria is going all out with the launch of a "Get Registered" campaign in March and April. The campaign will leverage online, print, and television media connections to spread the news of WEConnect International's presence in Nigeria and highlight the benefits of being registered with WEConnect.
In its March/April issue, Forbes magazine for women in South Africa will feature an editorial by WEConnect International’s South African team.
The UK team will attend an event at the DCU Ryan Academy for Entrepreneurship in Dublin. The program, organized by Intel, will offer participants the opportunity to meet with buyers from top companies such as Intel and Merck and learn how to do business with multinational corporations. It will be a workshop and networking. The UK team has also positioned WEConnect International to be a partner in the European Diversity Awards 2014, a corporate supplier diversity award initiative that will kick off in Madrid March 5.
